Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark
2015UNESCO Global Geopark, inscribed 2015, in Portugal. The Senhora da Mó panoramic geosite is one of the viewpoints of the Arouca geopark, located high above the town of Arouca. At its highest point stands a chapel believed to date back to the 16th century. The celebration in honour of Nossa Senhora da Mó, considered in Arouca as the patroness of the fields, the crops and the animals, and protectress against droughts and thunderstorms, takes place every year on September 7th and 8th. The Geological Interpretative Centre of Canelas (CIGC) displays some of the most impressive specimens of giant trilobites from the Middle Ordovician.
