Massif des Bauges UNESCO Global Geopark

unesco

UNESCO Global Geopark, inscribed 2015, in France. Local wine producers have long been aware that the quality and originality of their wines is due to the region’s underlying geological conditions, which not only define the soil type but also the topography, and therefore influence climate. The Vin de Savoie, as it is known, holds the appellation d'origine contrôlée label (AOC) that identifies it as unique. To go with the wine, the Tome des Bauges is a semi-hard cheese made from unpasteurised milk from cows that feed exclusively on grass, giving an earthy aroma. Visit one of the three astronomy-inspired centres in Curienne, Aillon-le-Jeune, and Le Châtelard ito explore the stars through sculptures, a planetarium, interactive games, poetry, and a giant stargazing hammock.
