Mananara Nord Biosphere Reserve
1990UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1990, in Madagascar. The Mananara Nord Biosphere Reserve comprises two major ecosystems, terrestrial and marine, both fundamental in providing food for the local population. The region has exceptional biological diversity with high rates of endemism. Since its designation in 1990, Mananara has served as a ‘multidisciplinary school’ of biodiversity preservation and socio-economic development, where managers, researchers and authorities work together on sustainable solutions.
