Mono Biosphere Reserve (Benin)
2017UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2017, in Benin. Stretching across the alluvial plain, and the delta and riverbank areas of the Mono River, this biosphere reserve comprises a mosaic of landscapes and ecosystems consisting mainly of mangroves, savannah, lagoons, floodplains and forests, including sacred forests. The reserve’s inhabitants are mostly engaged in small-scale agriculture of oil palm and coconut palms, pasture, forestry and fishing.
