Arly Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2018, in Burkina Faso. Located in the West African savanna region of south-eastern Burkina Faso, the Arly Biosphere Reserve is part of the Afrotropical dry forest biome. Set in an ancient peneplain with diverse landscapes ranging from grassy plains and shrubland to gallery forests and seasonal waterways, it harbours areas of striking beauty including sites where baobab and shea trees grow in distinctive clusters. The reserve’s primary objectives are to restore and sustainably manage wildlife and habitats, strengthen transboundary migration corridors, and support socio-economic partnerships that benefit both biodiversity conservation and local livelihoods.
