Sena Oura Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2022, in Chad. Located near the border with Cameroon, Sena Oura is Chad’s first biosphere reserve. It covers 173,520 ha of some of the last intact Sudanian savannah in the country and is home to elephants, giant eland and giraffes. With fertile soils and favourable agroclimatic conditions, traditional agriculture, particularly livestock herding, underpins local livelihoods. Forestry also contributes to the economy, including non-timber forest products such as honey and shea butter.
