Tassili N'Ajjer Biosphere Reserve
1986UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1986, in Algeria. The Tassili N'Ajjer biosphere reserve is located in the south-eastern part of the Algerian Sahara, close to the borders with Niger and Libya. The site hosts a rich inventory of fauna, and significant archaeological, historical, cultural and geological features, hence its designation as a national park and World Heritage Site. Ancient cave paintings and rock engravings of large fauna, such as hippopotamus and buffalo, are of international importance.
