Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve
2009UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2009, in Lebanon. The Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to the west, is a mosaic of ecological systems that broadly represent the evergreen sclerophyllous broussailles and forests biogeographical region within a Mediterranean biome. A dominant feature is its steep, verdant mountainsides rising from a river lined with cool, aromatic sycamore trees, reaching summits of statue-like karstic rocks. The mountainous relief creates several eco-zones, promoting diversity that harbours many species.
