Saihan Wula Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2001, in China. Saihan Wula Biosphere Reserve lies in the mountains south of the Greater Khingan Range. The reserve brings together a forest and grassland transition with valley wetlands and is regionally significant for ecotonal biodiversity and the hydrological functions of its wetland corridors. Management follows a protection-first approach that targets illegal logging and poaching and strengthens fire prevention. The reserve works through co-management with local authorities and Gacha communities to limit grazing in agreed areas, restore degraded sandy grassland and expand tree cover in the transition area.
