Foping Biosphere Reserve
2004UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2004, in China. Foping Biosphere Reserve sits on the southern slope of the middle Qinling Mountains in Foping County, Shaanxi Province. Recognised as a national biodiversity demonstration base, it protects a high-value mountain ecosystem, home to emblematic wildlife including the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). Set where warm temperate and northern subtropical zones meet, it conserves montane forests and rich flora and fauna. The reserve aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation while ensuring sustainable use and fair sharing of benefits. It works with research partners to apply nature-based solutions to climate, food security and local development.
