Tang-e-Sayad & Sabzkuh Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2015, in Iran (Islamic Republic of). The Tang-e-Sayad & Sabzkuh Biosphere Reserve is located in the south-east of Chahar-mahal and Bakhtiari province in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Land subsidence, geological activity and melting ice caps have formed several wetlands in the area, which are inhabited by rare fauna such as the wildcat (Felis silvestris) and the lebetine viper (Vipera lebetina). Research shows that 22 fish species are found in the Karun River, including the pike barb (Esox niger) and the Mesopotamian catfish (Silurus triostegus). The river runs through the area. During the cold season, bushlands in the area welcome migratory birds such as the white stork (Ciconia ciconia) and the greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus).
