UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2016, in Indonesia. The Belambangan Biosphere Reserve is located in East Java Province and incorporates three national parks, Alas Purwo, Baluran and Meru, and one nature reserve, Kawah Ijen. The reserve comprises terrestrial and marine ecosystems featuring karst landscapes and savannah. It includes different forest types, notably alpine and subalpine, upper, dry and lower montane, lowland, coastal and mangrove. The site also features seagrass beds and coral reefs. The main economic activities are agriculture and horticulture, as well as agroforestry, notably teak and mahogany.
