Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2018, in India. Located in the state of Sikkim, bordering Nepal to the west and Tibet, China, to the north-west, this biosphere reserve encompasses one of the highest ecosystems in the world, with elevations from 1,220 to 8,586 metres above sea level. It lies within one of the world’s 34 biodiversity hotspots. Vast natural forests support high species diversity with notable endemism. The main economic activities are agriculture and horticulture, along with animal husbandry, and fish, dairy and poultry farming.
