Doi Chiang Dao Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2021, in Thailand. Doi Chiang Dao Biosphere Reserve lies in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, in northern Thailand. The reserve is situated where the towering limestone massif rises within the Upper Ping River Basin. Spanning an altitudinal range from low valleys to a unique subalpine zone in Thailand, it protects an exceptional continuum of evergreen and deciduous forests, wetlands and karst caves. The reserve aims to safeguard the unique sub-alpine and forest ecosystems and the headwaters of the Ping, build its role as a hub for scientific study and learning, and support local livelihoods through carefully managed nature-based tourism and certified good agricultural practice.
