Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1977, in Spain. This biosphere reserve comprises the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, with an 18 per cent nucleus zone, and the Viñamala Hunting Reserve. It includes the Ordesa Valley, a canyon with vertical walls formed by successive Quaternary glaciations, and the valley of the Arazas River, which joins the Ara River and has many waterfalls. Located in the central Pyrenees, it is one of the best examples of mountain ecosystems shaped by erosion and glacial formations. It is home to unique species of flora and fauna of regional and international importance, many with some degree of threat, whose conservation is essential for maintaining biological diversity, especially in the core area of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park.
