UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1988, in United States of America. The New Jersey Pinelands Biosphere Reserve is situated in the urbanised north-eastern United States and consists of a mosaic of upland, wetland and aquatic environments. Wildfires have favoured a pygmy forest of pitch pine (Pinus rigida), blackjack oak and scrub oaks.
