UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1993, in Spain. The main characteristic of the Menorca Biosphere Reserve is the diversity typical of Mediterranean island ecosystems. Notable habitats include gullies, caves and wetlands made up of ponds, lagoons and marshes, as well as dune systems, coasts and islets. Some 220 species of birds and 1,000 species of plants have been recorded, including 60 endemic species.
