Oberlausitzer Heide- und Teichlandschaft Biosphere Reserve
1996UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1996, in Germany. This biosphere reserve covers Germany’s largest pond region. It extends approximately from Kamenz in the west to the Neisse River in the east. The area is characterised by striking habitat diversity within a small area, with ponds lying alongside sandy dunes. Its position at the transition from Atlantic to continental climate also helps explain the rich species diversity.
