North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve
1997UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1997, in Latvia. North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve comprises 53 km of the Gulf of Riga coastline and borders Estonia to the north. It covers 474,447 ha, corresponding to the catchment basins of the Salaca, Svetupe and Vitrupe rivers. Lakes characterise the landscape, with more than sixty larger than 3 ha, as well as gentle, glacially formed hills and rolling plains.
