Puszcza Kampinoska Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2000, in Poland. Located in the European lowlands north-east of Warsaw, and parallel to the valley of the Vistula River, this biosphere reserve is characterised by a high diversity of lowland habitats. Dune belts are separated by swamp areas, with a mixture of forest types that include bog-alder forest, ash–alder floodplain forest, pine–oak mixed forest, and low oak–lime–hornbeam forest. The abundance of natural habitats enabled the successful reintroduction of elk (Alces alces), European beaver (Castor fiber) and lynx (Lynx lynx). The core area of the biosphere reserve includes strictly preserved areas within the administrative boundaries of Kampinos National Park.
