Somiedo Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2000, in Spain. Somiedo comprises alpine ecosystems on the peaks, up to 2,100 metres above sea level, and the high ridges of the Cantabrian range. Slopes are covered by beech woods, green oak or Pyrenean oak, and swift-flowing streams run through the meadows that line the bottoms of the U-shaped glacial valleys.
