Unteres Murtal / Lower Mura Valley Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2019, in Austria. Located in south-east Austria and bordering the Slovenian Mura River Biosphere Reserve, the Unteres Murtal Biosphere Reserve encompasses 13,000 ha. The area is of natural, historical and cross-border importance owing to its position along the Slovenian border and its role in the European Green Belt. After the Danube floodplains, it contains Austria’s second-largest alluvial forest on a large river.
