UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1977, in Bolivia (Plurinational State of). Pilón-Lajas Biosphere Reserve lies on the far eastern spur of the Andes. It comprises mixed mountain and highland systems, low hills and Amazonian plains, covered by humid tropical forest, subtropical and tropical forest, forest on ancient alluvial terraces, and mountain and valley forest.
