UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1993, in Brazil. Greater São Paulo comprises 39 municipalities over an area of 805,300 ha. Covering only one thousandth of the country’s territory, it is densely populated. In this context, the São Paulo Green Belt Biosphere Reserve provides numerous environmental services to the region, securing safe water sources, stabilising the climate and filtering polluted air.
