UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2004, in Mexico. Located at the eastern end of the Yucatán Peninsula, the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve encompasses key wetlands recognised by the Ramsar Convention. It features mangroves, small estuaries, coastal lagoons, marshes and savannah that are home to many species and serve as nesting sites for some. In the past decade, the reserve has stabilised numbers of various endangered species.
