Cabo de Hornos Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2005, in Chile. The Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn) Biosphere Reserve represents a milestone for biodiversity conservation worldwide, as it includes an extensive area that covers the entire southern tip of Chile and the Americas, representing a treasure in terms of biological and cultural diversity. Here are the southernmost forests on the planet, at 55–56° S, which grow within a mosaic of pristine ecosystems. These include tundra formations and high Andean habitats, as well as glaciers, ice fields and Andean peaks. They also include permanent and intermittent watercourses, brown-kelp forests, fjords, channels, currents and intricate seabeds.
