Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. The Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve is on the Pacific coast of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It features mostly tropical dry forests over rolling hills, as well as lower wetlands and mangroves. Along the coast, coral reefs and refuge sites are home to several marine species. Together, these habitats support diverse flora and fauna, including a very high number of endemic species. Biologically, the region is among the most important in the country. With a combined area of 36,000 acres, the reserve hosts 70 species of mammals, 270 species of birds and over 1,200 plant species.
