Cuatrociénegas Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. The Cuatrociénegas Biosphere Reserve consists of a small valley locally known as a bolson, an arid basin in mountainous areas where rainwater does not reach the sea on the surface. These wetlands are home to over 800 plant species and about 360 animal species, some of which are critically vulnerable or endangered. Its gypsum dune sites have among the highest levels of endemism in the world. The pozas (pools) awe visitors with their beautiful shades of blue.
