Cumbres de Monterrey Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. Cumbres de Monterrey National Park is located in the province of the Sierra Madre Oriental and the sub-provinces of the Grand Sierra Plegada. The main ecosystems are coniferous forests, oak forests and scrub. It is considered a priority region and an important area for bird conservation because of its vicinity to the El Taray reserve, a parrot reserve in the mountains to the east. The area is important for ecosystem services, providing approximately 50 per cent of the water consumed in Monterrey and its metropolitan area.
