Laguna Madre y Delta del Rió Bravo Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. Laguna Madre lies on the coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico, about 120 km west of Ciudad Victoria, the state capital. Recognised internationally as a Ramsar site and as an Important Bird Area, it features in national priority maps for terrestrial, marine and inland waters. The reserve’s objectives are to conserve its hypersaline lagoon–delta system by safeguarding freshwater inflows and tidal exchange, protecting mangroves and seagrass meadows, and aligning local livelihoods with ecological zoning and long-term monitoring.
