Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve
2006UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. The reserve is an area of high geological and ecological complexity and of human activity. It presents a high diversity of environments corresponding to nine vegetation types. It is of great relevance as the northern limit of rainforest on the American continent and a unique case in Mexico and North America, given the connection of different forest and rainforest types from the seacoast to the volcano summits. It is a key rainwater catchment, as it is among the rainiest areas of the country.
