Pereyra Iraola Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2007, in Argentina. Sitting on the banks of the Río de la Plata in the north-eastern part of Buenos Aires Province in Argentina, the Pereyra Iraola Biosphere Reserve is located between the municipalities of La Plata and Berazategui. As the last protected area of the original riverside ecosystem, it has the province’s greatest biological diversity. This includes endangered bird species such as the burrito colorado (Laterallus leucopyrrhus). The area is also known for its medicinal plants and aquifers. The reserve is the largest public space in Greater Buenos Aires. It serves as a nearby leisure site with activities that include hiking, cycling and birdwatching. Family farming provides a living for people who live in the reserve.
