Cacique Lempira, Senor de las Montanas Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2015, in Honduras. The Cacique Lempira Señor de las Montañas Biosphere Reserve is in the west of the country and includes Montaña de Celaque National Park. The reserve contains cloud forest and mixed pine–oak forest. Part of the area is highland and includes Honduras’s highest mountain, Cerro Las Minas, at 2,849 m. Most of the population lives in the transition area and is rural, with agriculture representing 87 per cent of economic activity.
