Savegre Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2017, in Costa Rica. Savegre Biosphere Reserve is on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, 190 km from the capital, San José. It has rich biodiversity and is home to 20 per cent of the country’s total flora, 54 per cent of its mammals and 59 per cent of its birds. The main productive activities are agriculture and livestock. Ecotourism has increased significantly in recent years and has become a source of socio-economic growth in the region.
