Tribugá-Cupica-Baudó Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2023, in Colombia. On Colombia’s northern Pacific coast in the Chocó department, the Tribugá–Cupica–Baudó Biosphere Reserve spans a marine–coastal zone and a continental zone that extend from coastal mangroves to a coastal mountain range – the Serranía del Baudó – forming a crucial passage for species moving between Central and South America. The reserve’s objectives include maintaining ecological connectivity, protecting mangroves, strengthening sustainable fisheries, and advancing collaborative research and monitoring to underpin community-led, sustainable development. Beyond its role as a centre of endemism and biodiversity, the reserve also supports cultural identity and ancestral knowledge.
