Wolong Biosphere Reserve

unesco

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1979, in China. This biosphere reserve lies in south-west China, in Sichuan Province, about 150 km from Chengdu. Great mountain ranges, rising from about 1,150 to 6,250 metres above sea level, traverse the reserve between its north-eastern and south-western boundaries. Soil variation is notable: successive elevation bands support different soil types, from yellow soils and mountain black-brown soils to mountain brown soils. This heterogeneity underpins the area’s rich biodiversity.
