Yakushima and Kuchinoerabu Jima Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1980, in Japan. The Yakushima and Kuchinoerabu Jima Biosphere Reserve, situated 60 km south of Kyushu, is known for the Yaku cedar primeval forest. It encompasses the area inscribed on the World Heritage List (under the name ‘Yakushima’, inscribed in 1993) and now covers the entire island, as well as the island of Kuchinoerabu and the surrounding marine area.
