Jeju Island Biosphere Reserve
2002UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2002, in Republic of Korea. Jeju Island Biosphere Reserve is situated in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and covers a lava plateau with a shield volcano at an elevation of 1,950 m above sea level. Located at the centre of the island, it comprises Mt Hallasan National Park, two stream corridors and three islets in its core area. A large number of species inhabit Jeju Island. The major industries are tourism, agriculture and stock farming.
