Wudalianchi Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2003, in China. Located in the extreme north-eastern part of the country, the Wudalianchi area is marked by relatively recent volcanism. A rich diversity of plants dating from the Tertiary period gives the site high conservation value. The reserve is an ideal research site for geology, seismology and geomorphology. It is also known for its rich heritage and cultural significance. Local authorities promote eco-tourism and “green food”, with high involvement of the local community. Young people and women are encouraged to participate in the development of the reserve.
