Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya Biosphere Reserve
2004UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2004, in Sri Lanka. The Kanneliya–Dediyagala–Nakiyadeniya Biosphere Reserve lies in the southern Wet Zone of Sri Lanka and forms a connected forest complex between the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga river catchments. It is recognised nationally for exceptional species richness and endemism, with long-standing cultural and socio-economic value for surrounding communities. The core area covers natural dense forest in Kanneliya, while the Dediyagala and Nakiyadeniya forests form a continuous natural buffer. The reserve works to conserve biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods and provide a platform for research, education and training.
