North Devon Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1976, in United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. North Devon Biosphere Reserve, in South West England, is centred on Braunton Burrows, the country’s largest sand-dune system. It follows the linked catchments of the Taw and Torridge to the sea, and includes Lundy Island, a national biodiversity hotspot. The reserve’s objectives are to conserve and restore connected land–river–sea systems while supporting a fair, low-carbon local economy. Priorities include raising public awareness, building skills and research capacity, and promoting sustainable practices across local industries.
