Sequoia-Kings Canyon Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1976, in United States of America. Set in the southern Sierra Nevada of California between the San Joaquin and the Owens valleys, the Sequoia-Kings Canyon Biosphere Reserve covers dramatic mountain terrain cut by the Kern, Kaweah and Kings rivers. The reserve is significant for intact, connected habitats and range-edge biodiversity within the southern Sierra Nevada ecoregion. Its objectives focus on safeguarding naturally-functioning mountain ecosystems, supporting long-term research and monitoring, and providing education and nature-based recreation that benefit neighbouring communities.
