Kiskunság Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1979, in Hungary. The Kiskunság Biosphere Reserve and Kiskunság National Park are of priority importance for conserving biological diversity in the Pannonian Biogeographical Region. The biosphere reserve’s territory was designated a national park in 1975. Three parts of the reserve have been wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention since 1979, 1997 and 2006. Since 2004, it has comprised several Natura 2000 sites under the EU Birds and Habitats Directives. Kolon-tó at Izsák has been a Biogenetic Reserve since 1995. Its diverse terrestrial and aquatic habitat mosaics support rich flora and fauna, including species that are otherwise endangered, threatened or rare in Hungary.
