Waddensea of Lower Saxony Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 1992, in Germany. The biosphere reserve encompasses and protects the entire coast of Lower Saxony. Through its network with the neighbouring reserves in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, it also covers the entire German Wadden Sea. This cooperation is part of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation, which strives for harmonised conservation of the Wadden Sea World Heritage site and for the sustainable development of the whole Wadden Sea Region. With the exception of very small border areas, the entire Wadden Sea of Lower Saxony lies within the biosphere reserve.
