Blekinge Archipelago Biosphere Reserve
2011UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2011, in Sweden. Blekinge Archipelago includes most of the coastal areas and archipelagos of Blekinge in the south-east of Sweden. The biosphere reserve comprises granite coastlines and an accompanying archipelago with a variety of islands and islets. The area is marked by rich natural and cultural heritage, and by strong local commitment to maintaining the region’s social and economic dynamics through innovative thinking and entrepreneurship. This development goes hand in hand with energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. Municipalities and universities are carrying out joint research on the sustainable use of coastal resources.
