Mura Drava Danube Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2012, in Hungary. The Hungarian section of the Mura–Drava–Danube Biosphere Reserve lies in south-west Hungary, along the Croatian border. It is a classic lowland floodplain landscape shaped by wide river valleys, old riverbeds and oxbows that supports flagship species and rare plants. Ecologically, the area supports rich floodplain biodiversity and important migratory connectivity along the Danube–Drava corridor. The reserve’s key objectives are to restore a living floodplain and promote management that aligns conservation with local livelihoods.
