UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. Located in the Pacific coastal lowlands of Mexico, La Encrucijada Biosphere Reserve comprises two lagoon systems that host a wide variety of ecosystems, including mangroves, marshes, forests, coastal dunes and palms. It spans six municipalities in the state of Chiapas. With a rich variety of species, the area is also a fundamental resting place for migratory birds.
