Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano Biosphere Reserve
2006UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. The Veracruzano Coral Reef System National Park (NPVRS) is located in the State of Veracruz, opposite the municipalities of Veracruz, Boca del Río and Alvarado, at an altitude of 0 m above sea level. The total area is approximately 52,238 ha, and the site is around 2.7 km at its widest from the coast to the open sea, on the continental shelf. NPVRS borders to the north-west with the Lobos–Tuxpan Coral Reef System, located in front of the Lagoon of Tamiahua and Tuxpan, Ver., and to the east with the Campeche and Yucatán Coral Reef System (Gutiérrez et al., 1993).
