Volcán Tacaná Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, inscribed 2006, in Mexico. Volcán Tacaná, on the border with Guatemala, is part of the Central American Core volcanic chain, known as the Nucleo Centroamericano. It contains fragile ecosystems rich in wild flora and fauna of cultural, scientific, economic and biological relevance. Its biodiversity and high endemism are especially evident in the high mountain ecosystems and landscapes, and in the volcanic edifice. This edifice has geophysical features of great scientific and aesthetic value that are representative of humid environments of Andean origin found in Mexico.
